Any body got a spoked front wheel just stripped the siver paint off the wheel and found someone had welded across the thing so before i go and get a new rim just though i would ask . you know if i put a shiny one on the front the backs gonna need one and bang goes the budget thanks stomper uk

uh, you realize that's how steel rims are made right? bend a circle and weld it or is it a second weld that someone has done for some reason?

yes this is alloy rim not steel and it looks like its had a slit or somthing i only seen it when i got the tyre off and the paint it dont look like a factory finish

The alloy ones are made the same way, welded in one spot. It is finished quite nicely on the outside so you don't even see it, not so much on the inside, where it is visible. Even though you don't see it on the outside, there is a slight "bump" there you can measure with a dial indicator .....

ok thanks any idea about this one to be honest i have never seen one what do you think

Is that the only weld present on the entire rim? If so, it must be factory. The rim does look pretty pitted up, I'll bet it was really corroded at one time. That eats away at the aluminum. Maybe the weld was ground flush at one time and the areas around it have been eaten away, making the weld show now.

yes that looks like the only weld i think u might be right 5twins the rim had a thick paint build up which i stripped with a celulose stripper which acted like a filler anyway thanks for all your help mate you learn somthing new everyday again thanks stomper
