Seems the electrical gods decided I need to know more about my xs650 electrical system!
Good news....been out riding the 650 and have finaly got some ride time this month. about 500 miles! Been having some fun choppin and bobbin.

Bad news...came back from a ride the other day then went to go back out and crapped out at the light down the street.(I'm gettin too old to be pushing bikes home!). Had a spare charged battery and she ran fine...then that one died.
I have been hitting the front brake a lot because it squeaks and hitting the lever makes it stop for a while, but I think something else is up.
Where should I start?
Thanks.

Sounds like a bad contact or a wire short to me.

Clean the fuses and clean the connections then try again..

The battery will continue to discharge, if the charging system is not putting out enough voltage. With engine idling, you need to have 13.5 volts across the battery terminals; with engine at 2500 RPM, you need to have 14.5 volts.
If you don't have those voltages; first check the brushes for min length ( 7 mm) While the brushes are removed, put an ohmmeter across the rotor slip rings.........need 5 to 6 ohms approx. and infinity from each slip ring to rotor frame.
