i have a 75 xs650 and it had been running great but all of a sudden it would stall and then when i tried to restart it, nothing would happen. the button wouldn't work and the kick wouldn't work - didn't seem to be getting any spark. BUT if i turned the key off and then back on, it would fire right up. this used to happen once in a blue moon and now it happens a lot. at first, the bike would just stutter at certain rpms but now it just flat out stalls and i have to do the key off and then on trick to get it to fire up.
i'm a bit of a noob and i'm hoping this is something painfully obvious to you guys so you can just say - replace your condensor and i'll be on my way.
thanks in advance for any help.

Take the ignition switch apart and clean it. Should do the same to the kill switch, and check your fuse for no corrosion.

thanks retiredgentleman. one thing to note before i take apart the ignition switch - everything else electrical works after it stalls. the lights stay on etc. i just don't get any spark unless i turn it off and then back on quick.

Check the items I mentioned and see if the problem goes away.

the problem went away. i took a look at the ignition and it was fairly clean already. i cleaned it a bit more to be sure. the kill switch was clean. i took the tank off to look at the coils and condenser and the connections looked a bit iffy. one was pretty dirty. i cleaned all the connections and made sure they were secure (the dirty one seemed a little loose). i put it all back together and took it out for a very long ride.
not only has the problem gone away but it runs better than when i bought it.
thanks for the advice.
