Hi Folks.
I have been riding bikes for about 40 years mainly Triumph,BSA,and Matchless. Last year when my 1969 BSA Firebird developed a terminal engine problem I started to look around for something different, most jap bikes didn't suit because before you know it you have lost your licence. I saw a 1981 XS650 Special in a dealers showroom and after taking it for a ride which didn't impress me that much , bargained to get the price to $1500. After I parted with the cash I was pleasantly surprised to get repair invoices showing that the engine had been rebuilt only 4000 kilometres before. I have ridden about 500 kilometres on it and have to admit I have fallen off this bike 6 times. Comparing to the BSA the Yamaha is so top heavy not much steering lock but compensates by electric start and generally free of oil leaks. I have just rebuilt a 1970 Firebird and will take it for its first outing this weekend.

Cheers
Victor

Welcome aboard! But I must say i don't know how you managed slid of the saddle on the XS six times in one day as the XS isn't that top heavy where you completely lose control. Properly set up, the Xs will with a skilled rider can and will dust a sport bike in any twisty,it's just a matter of adapting to over come the center of gravity on the XS...............Jack

Hey Victortrry, welcome aboard. Congrats on the new bike. Hey Jack, he didn't say 6 times in one day, just over 500 kilometers. Hell he might have been dodging crocs or maybe a joey jumped out in front of him. I think tracker may be on to something with the Fosters though. Were you on paved roads or dirt? Dirt can be hell on a streetbike if the front end washes out on ya. Gotta keep the weight back on the rear tire and float the front end. But then again ya been ridin' for 40 years so who the hell am I to tell you. Aw hell, I'm rambling again. Glad ya here mate!
