Hello all,

Looking for a set of spoked disc wheels for my '79. Preferably an 18"rear, 19 front. Can anyone recommend years for these and compatility issues? If you've got a set and want to get rid of some, let me know.

ags are up for sale/trade too.

I don't think Yamaha made a spoked rear with a disk for the XS650. The only XSes with a rear disk were the 78-80 specials with cast (mag) wheels. The rear drum works fine on these bikes and looks cleaner too, IMO.

Not saying it isn't possible to convert to a spoked/disk rear -- but it could get complicated.

If you decide to go with a spoke rear with a drum, you'll need to convert the swingarm also. It needs the mounting point for the backing plate brace, but won't need the mount for the rear caliper.

Best,

ichael

Ok. I actually prefer a drum on a spoked wheel anyway. You're right they look cleaner. pedal linkage might be tricky, but doable. I can fab some sort of mount for the brace as well. I think I actually have an extra lying around somewhere.

Now the search...

I will also consider buying the hubs separate and lace them myself if you'v e got those.

My '78 cafe project's rear hub was shot -- the brake drum area had broken apart. I found a guy on eBay who was selling just the backing plate, and sent him a note, asking if he had the whole hub assembly. He did, and I think I got it for about $40 shipped. In the process of respoking the wheels right now.

So, what I'm getting at is, if somebody here doesn't have what you need, it never hurts to ask eBay sellers.

Best,

ichael
