I'm picking up a '81 today and the the starter button is missing. As it's been sitting for a couple years, I think I'll be using the electric start more than the kick while I try to get it running again. Can I just poke an appropriately-sized something in there to trigger the starter? Something like, say... A pencap? A screwdriver? Or will poking somethings in there be detrimental to the switch?

Thanks!

True enough and I will buy one... But I probably won't have one for at least a few days and I'll be wanting to do some work to it in the meantime.

The horn button does look the same... But rather than start taking the left-hand controls apart, it would be much easier to just push a pencap in there to start it if there's no reason I shouldn't.

The starter and horn buttons are the same. In fact, they're the same on many of the Jap bikes from this era. Find an old control assembly from another bike and you can probably use the button.

If you're going to buy new, I recommend these machined aluminum replacements. Cost is about the same as the plastic replacements .....

I used a large nail for awhile to start my bike. I bought a button from Mike's when I put an order together. I don't think you want to pay shipping on a $1 item.

Yeah... I've been looking at some of Mike's stuff. Does anyone happen to know if they're the same company as PartnMore? It sure seems like they are. I wonder if you can combine items from both sites to make up the $50 order for free shipping...
