I am brand new to all this. I purchased two xs650's 4 years ago with high hopes of rebuilding one of them. I gave up those aspirations and now I'm gonna tear them apart and sell the parts on ebay. I'm trying to dissassemble one of the engines and have no idea what I'm doing. I've got the cylinder head off and I can't figure out how to get the camshaft removed as it is held down by the camshaft chain. Can anyone tell me how to loosen the chain or otherwise remove the camshaft?

Slacken the cam chain tensioner ... do this by removing the locknut and back off the spring all the way.
Slide the 2 bearings of each end of the camshaft ... may have to carefully 'pry' the camshaft up a hair to free the bearings. Once the 4 bearings are removed, lower the camshaft and you should have enuf chain slack to remove the cam chain off the camshaft gear teeth. Slide the camshaft out.
I think/hope that pretty much sums it up.
