I just bought my first street bike, a 83 yamaha 650 Heritage special.

but i'm pretty darn new to bikes in general anyways, although i got a honda dirt bike a few months ago.

ok, i do have some really newbie question though, but there very important to me Smile

ok i figured out i shouldnt hold the clutch in to kick start it? ;p well atleast i cant kick start it while holding in the clutch i found. was very weird to me because i cant start my car/truck with the clutch not pressed in? but with this i can't have the clutch pressed? and i've been kick starting my dirt bike while holding in the clutch, should i stop doing that with it too? its a 93 XR250R

also, should i hold in the clutch to electric start? or not?

and where are the lube points in the bike, it seems to squeak alot, when the tire rolls, and the brakes squeak something ferce too. what should i do about that?

caliper is probably dragging on the front brake. You can't hold the clutch because the clutch plates need to be making contact to spin the motor over. have to be in N. Electric start doesn't matter, as long as your not in gear.

some people have got rid of most of the brake squeak by roughing up the brake pads with coarse sand paper. you might try spraying brake cleaner on the pads and rotor. spray alot on the pads. it helped mine quiet down. these 650's the kick start uses goes thru the clutch. some bikes they don't. the grease fittings are one on each end of the swingarm pivot bolt. and some times the brake pivot shaft. to lube the steering head bearings you have to take the steering head apart.thats about all that gets lubed, outside the engine. opps, almost forgot the cables need lubing. the clutch needs it regularly to help keep it working well.

Yes, the electric start will work with the clutch in.
