Just bought an xs650a for $100.00. Got lots of questions, will post a pic soon. It has a hardtail frame, looks kinda cool, not sure if it is the factory frame or not! according to the serial # it is a '74. wheels are mags too seems to me they would be spoked rims though. Also the rear wheel had 8 or 10 big washers between the frame and wheel! 3 on one side the rest on the other. Wiring is all messed up,can't even get a spark right now.

Well the hard tail at least isn't stock, I guess that's obvious. Here's a very stock looking 74 to compare yours to:

Welcome to the site, have fun with the new project.

apihtokosan; Sounds like you have a real challenge on your hands. Take a few pics and post them from time to time. What part of Alberta are you?

Welcome to the forum.

Chances are, your bike has just had the hardtail welded onto the existing frame. That's easy enough to check. On the steering neck, there should be an ID tag and also a VIN stamped there. If it's a Yamaha VIN, then it most likely isn't an aftermarket frame. Far as that goes, I don't know of anybody who makes complete custom frames for the XS650. BW Choppers and G&L Choppers both use stock frames for their HT conversions.

Best,

ichael
