Ok. I was riding around in the yard after working on my 75 and I when I went for the rear brake there was nothing. I'm not sure what the problem is, so if some one can help me out that would be great.
Thanks,
Jamey

I am assuming since your bike is a 75 you have drum rear brakes.
1. Is that right?
2. Were you working on the brakes before they failed?
3. Does the brake pedal feel ok. Offer resistance to your foot?
4. Have you adjusted the rear brake yet / lately?

Thanks for the help guys. here are the answers...
1. Yes
2. No
3. No. It feels like when you have no brakes in a car. Just straight down.
4. No/No
The front brake works fine. I'm thinking the rear just needs to be rebuilt unless I can just adjust it or whatnot. There's no scubing or anything. Luckily when I found out that it didn't work I was in the yard and not on the road.
Thanks again for the help.
Jamey

OK. So let's say you put the bike on the center stand and try the brakes with the rear wheel turning, it just keeps turning?
If this is the case and the adjuster is fairly far in on the adjustment rod, I would remove the rod from the adjuster. There is an arm that mounts to a splined shaft which comes out of the brake drum. On the end of that arm the adjustment rod goes through and has the adjuster on the end.
Try removing the adjustment rod from that arm and work the brakes by hand. Push forward on the arm to activate. If still no brake action, the rear wheel will have to come off and see what the problem is inside the brake drum.
Basically, the splined shaft turns a cam and pushes the brake shoes apart. Pretty simple stuff. There could be something broken in there.

That's what I was figuring. It's a really simple design. I was just wondering if anyone else had had this problem. I just got my new floats and carb kits and I'll be getting my mufflers tomorrow, so while I'm dealing with that tomorrow I'll check the brakes also. Thanks again for the help. I'll let yall know what's going on with it.
Thanks
Later
