This may sound dumb, but I'm having trouble with my plate. I've rode about 150 miles on my bike this summer and I've broken both corners off my license plate.

Is there some special bracket that's suppose to be on them so there isn't so much pressure on the plate where it bolts on the bike?

I look kind of dumb with my plate on upside down. Smile

I had the same problem. I went to the auto parts store and bought a license plate frame that mounts to the holder. This takes the stress off the corners of the license plate. I think it cost a $5 or so. Actually looks better that the raw plate.

I lost one plate off my '81. Had to replace a second one because it had started to crack. Looked around for an aluminum backing plate here locally and couldn't find one, so I used four rubber washers backed up by flat washers, one pair on each side of the plate per bolt, hoping that would provide enough cushion. So far, so good.

Best,

ichael

old road signs make great backing plates if you cut them down to size

Thanks for the quick response. Looks like I'm headed to the auto store...
