My 75 xs has begun to squeak at me. Took it out for a 30 mile errand hop today and after it warmed up I noticed a squeaking noise. After trying to figure out where its coming from and failing, I did notice that it is only there between 2500 and 3500 rpms in all gears, peaking in noise at about 3000. Starts at 2500 and just stops at 3500. What should I be looking at here? Thanks for the help.

Try lubing the felt pads that lubricate the points cam. Mine started squeaking last week and that's what it was.

Do you know when you last lubed the advancer rod bushings.............if you can't recall then probably should lube it (moly grease).

What should I lube the pads with? My crappy haynes manual doesnt tell me. And Ive no clue when the advancer rod bushings were lubed, so I'll do that too.

Regular oil on the felt pads. If they've worn down some you may need to back off the screw that clamps them and push them down so they touch the cam again.
