i can't see what differents it would make, but then i don't know a hole bunch about anything anyway. does it matter where the caliper is positioned around the rotor. i have seen them on cars and bikes at all kinds of different clock positions. the reason i am asking is, the pipes on my scooter are upsweeps and are very close to the rear caliper. right now it is at the 10:00 position. i think i can move the caliper to the 4:00 positon and it should do it. the trouble to me is, it is upside down and was thinking this would cause some problem, but then i have seen calipers mounted at the 6:00 position too. why are they mounted at the 11:00 - 1:00 position on most bikes? my head is beginning to hurt with all this thinking. i am going to bed.

Air bleed screw I think should be on top...may work but may have to take the caliper off to bleed with a spacer in there to simulate the disk spacing...and the pull on the caliper has to be backed up ...one lock up and you could be toast also......just guessing on all of this you know......xsjohn

John you are right about the screw. It is on top as that is where the air will go. you could move it to another position, but you will have to bleed as John described. I would also think this may cause a problem with the locating arm as well.

you guys may be right about the bleed screw. i haven't really noticed, the ones i have seen in different positions, where the screw is. it may be still on top of the caliper. if it is a custom made one this could be so. on the xs you can rotate the caliper around, so i could bleed it with the screw on top, then rotate it back around to where i need it. the problem i have is, i really like my pipes! besides, i still got the front to slow me down!! hahahaha. yes i do have to remake my locating arm too. here is a pic of my bike. i have got just about everything done since this was taken a year ago.

from your pic it looks like there is plenty of room between the pipes and caliper. far enough apart so there is good airflow. heat from pipes should not bother the caliper.
