Hi, I've been following this forum for a while and appreciate the amount of knowledge that's out there. It's a great source of information.
Has anyone purchased and installed the '72 style (baseball bat) mufflers from Mike's XS? I'm restoring an XS-2, and I was wondering how well they fit to the original headers? How is the overall quality and what gasket and connectors are necessary? Thanks, -Dan

Dan - I have been wondering the same thing but never asked. I'll be interested in learning if anyone here has any experience (fit, finish, sound, etc.) with them as I'd like to replace the beat-up ones on my '73......................Wes

One of you should try those mufflers and then tell the other how they work. Then the other guy can try those mufflers and argue with the first guy. That seems to be how things normally work around here. Smile

Well did either of you get the mufflers?
I put a complete set on my '81 H. I like them. They are quiet yet have an authentic sound. I saw two bikes at Americade last year sitting side by side one with originals and one with mikes and I could not see the difference. Except the new ones were obviously brand new. I like, enough that I might buy a second set for my '80. Greg

I installed the Commando style mufflers from MikesXS on my xs2 and they work fine. The old ones were $19.99 auto glass packs, so it's a huge improvement in looks and sound. It took me a couple of weeks of an hour here, and an hour there, turning upside down and darn near standing on my head prying, trying to get my stock header pipes onto the studs, and then realized I had to take them off once I got them on. The Commando pipes were too close to the rear sprocket and chain. I had to shim out the headers with 4 washers on each side, to get enough clearance. I ordered the indented brackets, but had to hammer them out to fit correctly.
After all the angst, they fit and I'm glad I bought them. I haven't tried the "tuning" bolts in the exhaust to dampen the sound, might yet give that a shot to see if it's better.
Peace,
Bsquared.

I really want a set of those! I can't really find them here, and have no money anyhow, but I really like them.

I just installed Mike's XS replica mufflers on my XS2 to replace the short reverse cone megaphones also from Mike's. The shorties were quiet initially, but after about 500 miles, they were too loud for my old ears. The install went smooth and now my bike is quiet! I have very recently posted pics on here.

UPDATE on my '81 H with MIKES XS-1 Replica's
I road the H to Americade then just kept riding it. I have more miles on it this season than on all my other bikes put together, '80 SG which usually I ride the most, 1989 FJ1200, and XVZ1200. And it is because of mikes XS-1 replica's. They have great sound, just like my XS2, and the bike has never run better. Thanks to those mufflers and XSJohn's needles.

Sorry, if I jack this thread, I tried searching how to send a p.m. but couldn't figure it out, or my computer sucks which is possible.

TO: Drifter, reference the old style mufflers. I found them on Mikesxs when I was looking for them. Here is the link.
