Hey all...Nice site!
Long time rider, first time xs'er. Wanted a old brit style bike and decided on a Japanese style brit bike. Picked up this 78 standard. In decent shape but needs a mechanical going over. I am afraid the valve seats are bad as the compression is 105 in both cylinders, hot or cold, with oil in the cylinder and the carb open.
Seeing as how I may need to get into the motor, I am thinking about Mike's 750 kit. Any problems with reliability, drivability or installation with these kits? Any cam suggestions for reliable street performance on a 750?
Am thinking long term about a street tracker and cafe style with two different seat/tank combinations that could be interchanged. omar's & stock tank for the tracker and something like Mike's new cafe seat and an XS750 tank for the cafe.
Looking forward to another long term project

Hope you enjoy this site. Large knowledge base here to help out if needed. These XS 650's are easy to work on and a blast to ride.

just get it running first, 105 is a little weak but enough to go with, the valves and rings will reseat (hopefully) with a little running time

Welcome, Jralex! Your project sounds interesting. Never thought of interchangeability before. Don't see why it couldn't be done. Keep us informed of your project as it progresses.
Best,
ichael
