I'm wondering that since I did away with the starter motor, if I still need the same battery. Without having to crank the starter motor, all the battery has to do is supply initial spark for starting and then acting as a sort of capacitor while running. A battery still has to be 12 volts, but I would think it wouldn't have to have much amperage. Anybody tried running a very small 12 volt battery?

It could be pretty small if no starter is involved as long as it gives 12 volts to get going. I'd have to find the measurements on my battery but I went much smaller than stock and can still use my electric start as well on my chopper. I usually kick but it's nice to have the elecric still.
