I am in the process of rebuilding and upgrading my engine (rephased 700 cc). I had a trans problem last summer that took out 1st and 2nd gears which forced me to start out in 3rd a few times to get home. Since then I have had problems with the clutch slipping probably due to the plates getting glazed.
The question is, I have seen where others have sanded the plates to clean them up and increase hookup. If my plates are within spec as far as thickness goes, could I do this to stop the slipping or should I just get new plates? I am concerned because the new engine will have more torque with the displacement increase, etc.

you can dress the steel plates by (dont laugh this really works very well!) taking them out in your driveway and pressing firmly do figure eights on both sides until you have a nice even crosshatch pattern

Yes, you want to use a concrete surface. I've heard the side of a cinder block works well also.

This is true. The first few powershifts are fun as hell.
