well the 3" end caps looked good but were TOO quiet! so i have a new plan. i will fit the perforated tubes (as pictured) with f/glass packing material. this will get them 'flowing' better and should sound better. before i started all this they were too loud.

previously unbaffled @ 1,200 rpm : 111 db
" " @ 3,500 rpm : 115 db

baffled with steel wool and perforated end 'disc' @ 1,200rpm : 101db
" " " " " " " " @ 3,500rpm: 105db

the stainless steel scouring pad baffleing affected performance at lower revs, i think it may have been choking a little too much....

tomorrow ill try it with the new perforated baffle as pictured (with glass wrapping)...
