Can anyone tell me/show me what mufflers they're running with stock headpipes?
ikesXS warns that many aftermarket mufflers will not fit and/or interfere with the foot controls. Is this a concern if I run rearsets?
Are there any mufflers that work with the stock pipes/stock foot controls?
I know there's a world of stuff available out there...I'd just like to keep it inexpensive if I can. A pair of mufflers can be had for less then a hundred bucks. New headers/exhaust systems can be three or four times that, easily.
BTW, I like the Commando/reverse megaphone/semi-stock look best.

scotts do yourself a favor get rid of the stock headpipe. Have you ever seen how choked up those pipes are? there a pipe inside a pipe. They appear to be 1 3/4" outside but I think if memory serves me well about 1 7/16" inside. besides the head already being restricted this is the most restricted point of the exhaust system. Besides that they are HEAVY. other then that I never looked for pipes to go on stock head pipes.

Actually the stock pipe ID is worse than that, Roy--1.25". MAC single-wall headers open that up to 1 3/8", which is enough for quite an improvement. I'd like to find some with a 1.5" ID, but it looks like I'll have to order some bends and make 'em.

Roy, what are you running? For headpipes I mean.

1.5 diameter . I havent welded them up yet because I dont have my super trapps yet. Its not a cheap date however, my cost total is around $310.00 before powder coating. Most header companys sell the bends and a good fabricator can duplicate oem pipes. I have acured som early 70"s aftermarket large finn exhaust headpipe clamps that I will use. They look real trick. I am a firm believer in trapps for performance because you can tune them to the engine and get the most from your engine mods. downfall is your constantly repacking them unless you like it louder, sort of like a flowmaster on a v8. But the performance in my opinion is worth every penny.

Roy, is that 1-1/2 id? or OD?
Also, do you have a good suplier of the bends?
Thanks,

Guys, if you don't or can't do it yourself for 1.5" pipes, Jemco will build anything you want:
www.jemcoexhaust.com/
And they look good, too:

Ah, but what's the fun in that?
For me, fabing this kind of stuff is as much fun as riding.

Yea-yea-yea...but the stock pipes stay chrome...the single walls blue while you are looking at them and that's a bummer, performance verses looks...restore verses modify...a tough question for some
