Give 'em a bloody good clean & degrease with thinners(cellulose) spray them all over with carplan satin black then using a rag dipped in thinners wipe-off paint (before TOO dry) from edges of the ally 'spokes' & rim or with steel-wool when completley dry..

IF YOU TAPE OFF THAT YOU DO WANT PAINTED THEN YOU CAN WAX THE AREAS YOU DON'T WANT PAINTED THEN PULL THE TAPE AND GO TO TOWN. I KNOW IT SOUNDS LIKE A LOT OF WORK BUT A LITTLE HEAT AFTER YOU PAINT AND THE WAX IS OFF. I HAVE SEEN OTHER NON-MOTORCYCLE PARTS PAINTED THIS WAY.

wally I've used the grease method on big iron (drilling rigs) but it's really messy and not what I'd use on smaller parts I'm wanting to look nice.
