I am 20 years old, I just got my licence and bought a used TX on ebay. The bike I got isn't exactly complete, the previous owner had planned on making it into a cafe racer. It has a trimmed rear fender, a round fiberglass taillight, and a little seat.

I bought this particular bike because my father has a later model XS and an uncle of mine has one in a barn at my grandparent's house that has no paperwork and is now a parts bike.

y plan for this bike is to get it working well enough to ride for a while and then this winter do some customizing. I want to rephase the engine, remove all the extra tabs and brackets off the frame and repaint it, and possibly lengthen the swingarm.

Very good starting point, and welcome to the forum. Having a donor bike will be a very good thing.

Just be careful if you have a tx you are going to need an older donor for some of those tricky parts. there are a lot of things that don't translate from 70-74 vs 75 -83.

cheers Kyle

yea I was actually thinking that i'd start riding this one as my daily driver and then taking the engine out of the other one to work on it over the winter, then when its done I'll swap them.

Are there any major differences in the engines of later bikes and the tx that may give me trouble? I believe the donor bike is a '78. This isn't a restoration job so I'm not too concerned about having to modify parts slightly to work.
