I got my father in law's 81 running real good now. Carbs done, brakes, new s/a bushings, exhaust back to stock, etc..
He has a bit of trouble getting his leg over the rear end, kind of short legged I guess. I took the preload down on the rear shocks and it helped some, but I was wondering if a guy could go shorter on the shocks?

Anybody lowered theirs with shorter shocks? If you could give me an idea of pros/cons/lengths I'd appreciate it...

Thanks,
Kyle

Look at this thread www.650rider.com/Forum....html#1228

I'm still partial to the aftermarket short Harley shocks, They're relatively inexpensive, not too tough to install and they stiffen up the ride from the mushy stock shocks.

I believe Mikes XS has some shorter (and longer) shocks for the XS650. www.mikesxs.com

I used Mikes 11.5 inch shocks. With them adjusted a couple clicks, it doesn't even bottom on speed bumps. Just thought i would add this for future use. The shocks are really nice and a perfect fit with no modifications.
