Why ask why, Because trikes are cool and different. If we all had the same tastes and talents the world would be a boring place. You know what they say about opinions and thats mine.

In my old town there was a guy with a harley trike. It had a little wooden box on the back like a pickup bed. That was where he kept his wheel chair, I thought it was the coolest trike I ever saw!

I've been doing some checking on this item. I have seen they use the "Middle Drive" out of a shaft drive XS, 750 850 or 1100, run your chain to 1 side and the shaft from the other. Check these sites.

Ther's a few more related websites I'll try and post some links to from my home PC

Here's another good link for chain / shaft adapters.

I've seen the trike a couple of times so the owner must be local when I see it again I will take a closer look. Might be a couple of weeks though as I'm off to France for my holiday soon.

Theres a couple trikes locally that were shaft axles that were dissmantled and the ring and pinion removed and a sprocket mounted to the ring gear. of course the pumpkin was modified to allow thw chain to work. One of these bikes are driven daily and has been for at least 15 years weather permitting. It is on a cb-350 twin. How it would work with more horsepower and torque is your guess. I have also seen hd axles used.

I've been trying to find some good info on what type of rear axle is the easiest to modify for this use. The old servi-car axles are getting pretty pricey these days. If you ever get the info out of the guy with the CB trike please share with me, Thanks!

yea anything with the HD NAME PEOPLE THINK IS PRICELESS . I dont get it either beleive me I would love to have a hydro glide . But there is no way that they are worth what people pay for them. With a engine life expectancy of tops 30.000 miles and replacement of half the body parts due to vibration and breakage I just dont get it. Then todays harleys are even worse. people pay 10,000 plus for big twins and then another 5,000 plus to hot rod them up. Now you have a 15000 and probably more investment into a bike that is still ill handleing and the first ten year old stock $9,000 r1 that comes down the road will still kick its ass. Not to mention that you can only stay in the saddle for about an hour on the hot rods due to the uncomfortable positioning of your legs around the carburator. But they show are purty to look at and would make nice reading lamps in the den. yea right they probably would nickle and dime you to death there too. when will harley build a performance bike? they use to be proud and won everything, till the little yamaha 650 came on the sean, harley hasent won a major ama roadrace event since june 1972 when the won loudon and that was on a kr model. There buels are excellent stopping jokes. there roadrace bike never won anything hd blamed riders. wheres mat maladdin now, wheres chris carr now? huh must not been riders. Wow did I ever get sidetracked off subject. yes I will get you some pics next trip up the valley and I will pick this guys brain.

In England they use axles of Ford escort 1600 E ( but there getting rare now) or relient robins (there a 3 wheel car) you probably don't have either of them on your side of the pond

Trikes are great. I have had three and would love another. They make no sense at all as you get wet in the rain and get stuck in traffic but they are so much fun!

I never owned a trike, I keep thinking about it, but don't have anywhere to keep one at the moment. I'm working on a XS1100 trike for a bloke at the minute, i'll give it a spin when I finish it, just to test it you understand.
