Sportster mufflers work nicely on the XS650. Mike's adapters should fit. These mufflers look great and I like the sound, deep and throaty but not too loud. You need to find a pair, eBay is a good place to look, that are from a 90's or perhaps an early 200? Sportster as the newer ones have a balance tube running between them. I got mine for $20 bucks on eBay.

I found a set off a Dyna Wide glide on ebay for cheap. They look like the Sporty mufflers without a connector pipe. I used a piece of 1 3/4 inch straight automotive exhaust pipe to extend them toward the back
8 inches, and fabbed two heat shields from a piece of stainless from a counter top to cover the extention. Polished and attached with two
stainless 10-24 countersunk screws. Looks great and sounds even
better. I'm happy.
