I know everyone was just trying to help. But in the end the sproket thing was my own choice to make, went with a 18/30 combo for now.Kept the 530 chain,I just hope the push rod guard is'nt to much of a pain to remove.Still have to order jets from Mike's I might even get a 38 or 40 rear just because I can.Should be fun in town.

jfplaying wrote "I just hope the push rod guard is'nt to much of a pain to remove" if you mean the gear shifter shaft cover there is the bolt at the back that will have you inventing new words otherwise sounds like you're good to go, you might as well pickup a 17t for a easy gear change, on the rear wheel changing sprockets is a little harder (best if you have a spare wheel) then you can use a short section of chain and a second master link because i don't think you'll have that much adjustment and of course new sprockets will mean a new chain for longer sprocket/chain life

Jf' I just put an 18 on my 75 and all I had to do was trim some of the rubber off of the shaft cover. I am using a 520 o-ring chain that is about the same size link wise.

I guess I'll find out soon if the chain will fit with the 18t, stock gear should be a 17t, never looked. As far as the chain for some strange reson when I went to a hardtail it came up 6 to 8 inches short. Go figure?

18/30 cool for town also. Bit too low for expressway. Being 8 inches to short not good. Even one inch can loose the date.

I hear you there xsjohn, do'nt matter about the "date" this ride is for flying solo. The 30t might be too much but I can always put the 34t back on. Not enuff flat roads around here may find myself shifting up and all the
time. The 30t might drop the rip em's too low.

Can't see why the 30 would be to much. Unless here is engine or carb problems. Mine pulls 18/29 easily and wish it was a 28 when I'm 100 miles from home..

Jack: Rode that Red RT1 all over Fla for 10 years geared 17/40 must have 50 thou or more on it. The Blue was one I built for my dad and is almost new. Ended up with it back when he died. Thanks for the kind word. Seems few appreciate the old stuff. When you cruse the town a lot of people do notice. The world is full of new stuff that seems everyday and un-appreciated.
