The 73 has the seperate Reg and Rect, can I put the all in one unit from 75-81 in its place? Thanks.

don't know if it could be rewired or not but mikexs does sell a one piece unit to replace the two piece stock so if you are good with electronics it probably is doable

I am in the early stages of building a bobber, so I have to rewire the bike from scratch any way. I just didnt know if there is a reason I cant. But they do the same thing just one is a one unit instead of two.... am I thinking right on this?

yes they do, there are chop wiring diagrams (check 650wiki) or some of the posts in electrical in this forum and you should find what you need
