does seat from earlier models fit newer ones?

was wondering if earlier model with flat seat would fit my 82,or is frame completely different,if so does anyone know of different after market style seats,thankyou

Most earlier seats (before 1980) were hinged on the side. If I remember correctly,your seat unlocks and slips off. These seats are not interchangeable. Perhaps you could find a local upholestry shop that could cut your seat down,and re-cover it. Maybe somebody else has a better suggestion.

the standard model (flat seat) will not fit the special frame (stepped seat) nor will the special fit the standard unless you want to do a lot of boogering,(never say never some one will do it just to prove you wrong) best bet ---- watch ebay

Hey,raceville,if you could find a seat from a 1980 Special,you might like it better than the seat currently on your bike. Check out ebay item # 280088726940. While you're there,do a search for XS 650 seat. Don't specify 1980,as many people improperly list them. The seat would have to be from a 1980 Special,not a Special II. The Special II used the hinged type seat carried over from the '78 and '79 Specials.If you find a seat that you are interested in,ask the seller to e-mail you a picture of the bottom of the seat,if it isn't already in the listing.This way you can compare the mounting system with yours,to make sure the same.
