New to the XS650 and I am needing some help.
A friend sent me some carbs and I believe that at least one of them are for an XS650.
I Hope some of this info helps.
One set is smaller than the other and the spacing is different.
Both are linked together.
One has a plastic choke handle.
On the smaller set the throttle cable connects between the carbs.
On the larger set the cable connects to the outside of the left carb next to the plastic choke.
The smaller rack has larger screws on the bottom, maybe for changing the jets without dropping the bowls?
The larger rack just has a small screw on the bottom.
Can we post pictures here or only links to pictures?
Thanks

not sure of the years but it looks like you have a set of 34's and 38's - lucky dog - they both have the solid caps (better than the tin tops) good carbs as far as diaphram carb go, both are easy to find parts for, check them for numbers on the carb bodies and then it depends what you want in a motor as far as jetting goes, check mikesxs for parts, just be careful taking them apart so you know what jets they have in them now jayel

Your 34mm looks identical to the 34mm Mikuni on my xs400. If you are ever looking to offload them I may be interested. I had some "issues" rebuilding mine (read the perch for the floats cracked off on one side but still seems to fit together well and not bind)

I was just recently told that these carbs aren't any good and that I need to get 34mm vm's is this true?
I am not looking for high performance. Just reliability.
And I'm not looking to spend more than I need to.

There are a few tens of thousands of XS owners who are running the stock carbs with no problems. The VM's are nice but they have issues of their own.

36 mm roundslides have made a world of difference in my stock motors performance. One kick without choking it and she is ready to rip. It's the best addition to my bike I have made....I took the stock cv junk and used them for target practice.....BOOM.....

Not an option for an original bike.

My 1980 34 cv's run perfect with some mods. These were used cause they adjust better for altitude. Rode my Rt1's in Florida with round slide carbs for years and when I took them to California for two years it was a carb frenzy all over again when I went up the mountains. They ran good on Long Beach but not in the mountains. Fix them for the mountains then they wouldn't run on the beach. Stick with the CV's.
