How exactly do I time this bike? I tried doing it the way my haynes manual told me to, but it's confusing. Any tips?

year and model would help - points or cdi ignition? set points gaps first then timing right side then left

I think I figured it out. Once again, I am putting together 2 bikes to make one and I didn't label some stuff that I should have. The answer (I hope) is that the coils are hooked up backwards. Now the question is.....On a 1979 650 SF(?) there is a red wire and a red/white wire. Which goes with which coil? I looked at the manual and it doesn't specify which is which. Thanks in advance!

the red and the red/white are one connector , goes to the brown on right coil as sitting on the bike, the other one - grey wire goes to orange.
The other coil (left) the grey goes to brown , orange to orange.

just bring the timing mark on the gen. to the F mark on the case, see which set of points is ready to open, top set of points should fire right side, bottom set left, move wires to proper coils

Gotta get to bed now so I don't get the neighbors too angry by trying to get this thing tuned in tonight. Thanks again for your help!! I'm gonna post pictures of this beast soon.
