Finally got my hardtail section from G&L and it was worth the wait. It is awesome! Started cutting my frame up to prepare it for the hardtail. My friend that is welding it on for me got bit by a fiddleback spider and isn't feeling real good but hopefully will be able to get to it next week or the one after. Here are a few pics.

Got the hardtail welded up today. Still have some grinding to smooth out the welds but am really likeing the way it is turning out.

After setting it on there I really like the look of the stock tank with the hardtail. I think it will look even better when I get the drag bars. Let me know what you think of the tank.

I had bought a sporty tank off Ebay but I don't think I am going to use it.

Anyway more to come soon.

Stock tank looks right on!
Dirka,
Overall length is the same, as I run both from time to time, the 'Special' is a bit narrower and slopes a bit more to the rear, holds about a gal. less fuel. Jayel posted some dimensions of the 'Special' ( offset cap) tank, not sure where.
The cap in my '78 Standard tank and the one on my '83 Special don't interchange. You can switch the key lock though.

In the 1st and 3rd pictures you are cutting and grinding over an open engine. Not good unless you plan on doing the bottom end too. Just a little constructive criticism..............BG. Hey shame on me for not looking and reading the entire story or I would have known that the engine is an empty case for mock up.......Nice pictures, keep them coming........ BG
