From the top to bottom is bout 920mm to axel is bout 900mm. This is not compressed with no wheel.
I have since put them back together, filled with 250ml of oil in each. and there working fine. I will have a go at shortening them soon. Will post up how I go.

Think I have figured out what the PO has done. He or she has obviouly wanted to lenghten them and has just got longer 35mm tubes. He kept the original springs and damper rod, and just inserted a metal rod to make up the differance in length. Dodgy! Sooooo im thinking all I need to revert back to the original setup would be the Tubes and End caps?

That sounds right to me. shop around ,maybe some one wants a longer set and will trade thier stock set for your longer set.

I found a mm tape measure and it looks like your tubes are 6" over stock, wow!
Would work on a rake or? Maybe someone will swap you out.

Did you measure it while it was compressed? or uncompressed? With the wheel on and wieght of the bike they only measure 850mm or 33.5 inches with out the wheel and just hanging there about 900mm or 35.5".

Uncompressed, without the wheel, mid axle to top.
Stock is around 30".

They look like dirt bike tubes in xs legs cheap way to do extended forks for chops. You can get them machined the same length as stock with a new circlip groove cut and drill and tapp the plug for an air valve, that way you also have a little bit more adjustment for ride and handling.
