I know Yamaha offered hard luggage back in the day. They're almost impossible to find now.
There's a guy on ebay that sells several different styles of hard bags. He offers an "Easy Brackets" mounting system.
I'd like to know some dimensions on the stock luggage so I can see if he has something close. Also, maybe some pics/measurements of how and where to mount them?
I like these: cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotor...53dd58154e

They're similar to stock, minus the hump on the lid.
Are there any other bikes (Honda, Suzuki, etc) that may have used hard bags that could be adapted?

Those are a little big. I'll see if I can find some pics of OG Yamaha bags for the XS650.

I don't like hard bags. Whatever you put inside 'em gets beat to pieces on long trips -- unless you pack 'em tight full of foam rubber or something to keep stuff from rattling around in there. The big 'trunk' gizmo that rides up, above the seat and behind the rear wheel is especially destructive. You could put a litter of kittens in that thing with some taters and carrots and onions, a packet of brown gravy mix, a little salt an' pepper, ride it five miles, park it in the sun for two hours, it'd work just like a crockpot. You'd have stew for supper and not very big chunks in it, either.
