Did you maybe leave one of the original steel plates in when you installed the new plates?

Do you feel resistance when you pull the clutch? I would imagine so if you have it adjusted, does it go through a full lever motion, you know from open to pulled against the hande?

Yes I feel resistance is goes through a full pull.
the plates are lined up properly dot to dot
I'm using yamaha brand 20w50
all the plates are new.
If i'm getting a full pull case clearance should be fine.
arrgh

Did you oil the clutch plates BEFORE you put them all together?

how were the clutch basket slots, any ridges along the fingers will hang the plates

Have you ridden it yet?
Put the bike into 2nd or 3rd gear & pull the clutch (motor off)
Roll the bike gently backwards & then give a short brisk push forward.
Repeat 3 or 4 times. I need to do this every time I ride mine to free it up before I start it!
