Sports fans,

If you've ever had an interest in Aussie Rules, or are slightly curious about the greatest game on Earth!

Finals action is well under way with semi finals being played this weekend, preliminary finals next weekend followed by the grand final the following Saturday.

So if you have the chance to watch any of it, you'll be sure to see our best teams in a fast paced, action packed game, that WILL leave you wanting more!

I don't know a lot about American football (we've just started getting regular US baseball on free to air, been loving that), though I do tune in occasionaly (limited viewing opportunities here), and have watched a couple of Super Bowls. I enjoyed what I've seen so far, a lot different to Aussie rules though!

So go on, check it out, this link will tell you how to find it in your area,

www.afana.com/drupal5/tvsched

cheers

We get Aussie rules in England sometimes, but they never explain the rules. Is good to watch even if you don't know whats going on.

It's played in a round field, right? I think I've seen video clips of it...looked wild.

Sadly the mighty Saint Kilda Saints weren't up for the challenge & the Geelong Cats beat them in a close & very hard fought contest!

We play against Ireland every year in a modified Aussie/Gaelic rules match. Usually ends up a faily bloody encounter!

100,000 people went to the grand final yesterday! This is 20,000 down on the 1970 g/f, but capicity rules have changed a bit since then!
Watched by over 3 million in Aus & millions more around the world, it's pretty safe to say that Aussie Rules is, by a long margin, the most popular game in Aus!

watched a rerun on pfv last night...close finish-could have gone either way-have to feel the pain for st kilda...so close yet so far after so long

what is the difference from gaelic football?...have enjoyed several live games while touring in ireland-the crowd is really partisan

I'm no expert on Gaelic footy, though yes they are similar, Wally posted the rules of Aussie football above:

www.afana.com/af_faq_sec2.shtml

Gives a reasonable run down on the basics, though a little dated.......Happy to answer any questions though, no problem.

Yes, the poor old Saints have only won one premiership in their 112 year history, and that was in 1966!
My mum is a mad Saints fan & was there to see that game in '66, she was very dissapointed by the loss on Saturday......Not as upset as some of the fans at the ground, the news showed a bucket load of grown men crying over the result!

As they say, "it's not a matter of life or death, it's much more important than that"!

Well, I've got to eat a bit of humble pie here, I heard the ratings on the Aussie Rules grand final - 3.4 million viewers, National Rugby League 3.6 million.

I think that was a suprise to the TV stations too!

- must admit i find it kind of ironic that the brits shipped all their convicts and misfits to australia and then gave them the country, one of the most mineral and resource rich lands in the world...true socialism at work? or shooting yourself in the foot? Mr. Green

- i think that must be an anglo saxon mindf##k - what the brits did for the aussies, the aussies did for the aborigines and the americans did for the first nations - passing off what they considered waste land in return for personal and political gain - not only did they overlook the deeper resource richness of these areas they also were, and largely still are, underappreciating the sheer beauty and spiritual strengths of these marginal lands

- i know australia well and have lived and worked there but am not australian - although i would quite happily leave europe and return
