So my 79F has all the components for the brake, but the brakes do not work... I filled the brake fluid and still nothing. I am a newbie to brakes on these bikes...Thanks again for everything in advance...

You don't mention if you are working on the front or the back. I've got my front master cylinder and caliper apart. After some inspection and checking on rebuild kits price vs cost of replacing it, I decided to replace it. I AM rebuilding the caliper however. The piston is pitted. bore seal leaked.
If you don't have a manual : www.knucklebusterinc.c.../XS650.pdf
Section 5 about page 42 by the number on the pages, talks about the brakes. How to service and bleed them.
