I managed to push the piston out of my front brake caliper. I believe it's the newer style from the 77-84 bikes. So I've got it out and I've cleaned up the caliper. What all do I need to buy? The spring and rubber boot on the external part were both trashed.
The piston has rust pitting in a ring around where the rubber seal sat.
I presume I need to buy a new rubber ring internal to the caliper, a new piston, a new boot and spring.
Does anyone sell all this stuff as one kit? Mike's seems to break up the parts. I'm willing to use a used piston if someone has one that's smooth and wouldn't leak. Is it hard to get the piston pushed into place after you've replaced the rubber interior o-ring?

Hey Luke
You need to buy the rebuild kit from Mikes. This will give you all the rubber parts you need.
Mike also sells a new piston as well.
When I rebuilt my 3 calipers he was out of stock on the pistons,so I bought 3 off a seller in Germany who sells under the seller name kenosha kid.
He had real nice stainless steel pistons for the same price Mikes were.(I also bought lost of stainless bolts from him as well).
I would highly recomend the stainless pistons over the cast for the longevity of stainless steel against corrosion.
For the question of used piston for the price I say "go new"
The piston is not too hard to install, some brake fluid for some lubrication and just firm and steady pressure, keeping the piston straight in the bore of the caliper. Piece of cake!

Sorry guys I forgot to mention he sold on Ebay.
That link above luketrash has posted is him.
You may want to send him a message,he may have some SS pistons on hand, just none up for auction at the moment.
His name is Franke and he is a great seller to deal with!
I highly recommend his products and is quite knowledgeable of the XS 650.

Last I checked a few days ago mike was out of stock on that kit as I was looking too. I decided to replace the stock original lines with stainless. I don't know if the rubber ones would swell when the brake was used but I'm pretty sure the stainless ones won't.
