Not sure how to go about this for best results. Anyone else here done it? Looking for pics of your mount if you have it.

i had to grind off original rubber mount ears off the frame. Then i just lag bolted the rubber pads to the frame. the xs750 tank has the ears on the tank, not on the frame.

Yup, what he said. It's that easy, stop spasing and grab a few beers, makes the whole process easier.
Takes about 30 minutes. I Gorilla glued the new pads onto the frame and also put metal screws w/ washers through to make sure they stayed.

If you're lucky you can buy a brand new, still in the factory box, one like I did on ebay for $160 or a used one for less then half that.

MN_TX650,
I've got a XS750 NOS tank for my '73. I drilled out the spot welds securing the ears to the frame. The ears on the tank are still to narrow to clear the frame. Did you grind the ears on the tank to provide the needed clearance to straddle the frame? I'm thinking of cutting the triangular headtube gussets off and fabbing up new ones that is narrower.

I ran into the same issues. I ended up mounting my tank a little higher in the front. I thought about cutting the gussets off, but I don't think my welder has enough oomph to weld new plates onto the frame

The other thing holding you back from going lower, is the tunnel on the tank. It will hit the backbone of the frame if you try and go too low.
