Sorry to hit you guys up for more info, but here goes.....
To my knowledge (which isn't that much) I have wired up the bike correctly.
HOWEVER, the indicators light up but don't flash. Would this likely mean that the signal lamp flasher relay is stuffed?
But the biggest problem is with the starter. I have power going to the starter relay but when I turn the key there is no click (apparently there should be) and when I hit the starter button - nothing. Do you think the starter relay is stuffed?
Any help would be MUCH appreciated.

Scott

Don't be sorry to ask questions .... thats the whole point here! Smile

Do your turn signals flash properly when the bike is running and reving 2500 RPM? If so, your charging system is working but the battery may be bad and not hold a charge.

Use a voltmeter, check for voltage on the wire going to the starter from the relay. There should be 12 volts or so when the starter button is pressed and key ON. If not it most likely is the relay ... if you have voltage there ... then its a starter problem

I got replacement turn signals from Mikes XS and they wouldn't flash unless I revved the motor. I changed out to the old bulbs and they are OK. Must be a resistance thing.

Aha! I got replacement signals from Mikes XS as well. Now, considering I have never started nor had the bike running, I wouldn't know if the things flashed at a billion RPM let alone 2500!
And as the bike didn't come with the old indicators, I don't have the old bulbs. Any ideas?
I'll show you with a couple of photos what I started with and where I am now.

Looks nice. I like the standards. I would imagine any replacement bulb would be ok. Turning the key does not make a click sound. Check for 12V to the blue/white wire on the starter relay when you push the starter button. Also check resistance from the red/white to the blue white to make sure the coil in the relay is good, appears it should be 3.5 ohms.

I noticed the dual disks, are you in Europe or is this a modification you did?

Thanks for the advice. I'm in Australia. Not being very familiar with the XS's, I've put the thing together from scratch. That's why I'm a bit uncertain of a few things.
I don't know if the dual disk were standard here or whether the previous owner chucked them on.
I cannot wait to fire this thing up and take it for a blast! Just gotta get the few electrical dramas sorted out.
The last two things I need help with are:
Where are the mounts for the rear indicators. Do they have their own brackets?
And finally the order that the side cover clips are put together ie. what parts are on the outside of the cover?
Thanks for any help.

Scott

As far as the turn signals, what year is it. I've got a few different manuals and they all show different things.
