Hi,
I was hoping someone could help...when removing the seat steel loop(not sure what to call the steel for the seat??) for a cafe style seat, do I have to weld an extra support to strengthen the frame?????
Any help is appreciated.
Thanks
James

These frames tend to flex if not gusseted in the right places and would most likely depend how hard of a rider you are but me personally I would weld a piece of round tubing to increase the rigidity of the shock mounting points to reduce flexing or twisting as a per-cautionary step........Jack

I plan on welding an elliptical loop on the back of my frame to match the tail shape. But I don't think adding any metal behind the shock mounts where there is already a cross brace is going to make a difference structurally. It seems that most cafes I've seen just chop the tail off. The structural bracing needs to be between the swingarm pivot points and the intersection/bend on the top tube.
