hello all it's me Anomalovaho ...well i'm now going to be obsessed with building a xs 650 something ... heres what i got .... 1972 cb550 ...now the thing is in ok shape ...but i like the xs 650 motor ALOT i'm going to get one soon sooooooooooooo anyhow can i take that cb 550 frame and modify it to fit a xs 650 motor? would that be a waste of time or should i go look for a xs frame and work with that ...basically can i come up with about the same thing out of the 550 with a 650 xs motor??? ok and also if i get ahold of a xs motor and lets say i have to rebuild the top end and have camshaft sent to be shaved to 277 degrees is that exspense or fairly resenable?? if anyone responds to my rambling i would greatly appreciate your time . thank you ...Sincereley me ...Anomalovaho

i've been putting aometime in reading about the xs motor it seems like a fairly easy motor to comprehend and i think i could work on it my self. i'm really excited to make i bike .

I think it would be best to start with a 650 and a 650 frame, the cost and time
to modify the 550 frame wouldn't be worth it.

Have to agree with mo, look on ebay you can get fairly nice 650's there for $500-$1000, also check around your used motorcycle dealers, I found one that I can get the motor and front brake system for about $200. If I get the motor I am going to bore it out and maybe rephase the crank. There is a guy out of Australia that sells big bore kits as big as 840cc and he is working on a rephase kit.

Don't do it the easy way!

It can be done. Below is a link to a guy in the UK who fitted an XS650 to a CBR400 frame.
I have seen this bike and it is wicked.
It needed a new rear subframe and new fabricated rear engine mounts.
It was also fitted with a single carb (Webber DCOE I think) to clear the top rails of the frame.
You will need to have some fabrication and welding skills, but it will certainly be a special.

(Mind you, the same guy also runs a supercharged methanol burning XS650 based drag bike).

Fly your own way.
