so i read the book and went to set my cam chain. i turned back the motor to slack the chain to the rear and set the bolt. then i rotated the engine like it says and the little pin moves in and out as i rotate the motor. is that normal and at what point should i be setting it. when its all the way in or all the way out?

Turn the motor the other way. Counterclockwise.
