I am in the market for head pipes. Anybody have an opinion? It looks like the Mac pipes are 37" and the XS Performance are 35". Other than that, I don't know. I am looking for pipes with as much upsweep at the ends as possible.

Thanks

A friend of mine has a Mac exhaust and I dont like the way they seat at the exhaust gasket at the head. The header doesnt have a thicker machined part ware it meets the head its just a sharp pipe and tends to cut into the gasket then leaks after a short while. I wouldnt buy one unless they have changed that.

The cure for that is posted on the site. Cut off the ends of the old rusty stockers, take off the outer wall off the double wall pipe with chisel and grinder ,fit it into the the MAC pipe, bolt it on. Lessens the chance of a leak and helps power. I am using a MAC two in to one, hated the sound ended up replacing the stock baffle with an after market one. Less restriction hurt the lower RPM power. After I installed the the old part in the MAC it really perked up the idle to 4500 range. So much so that I had to raise the needle a notch and I'm thinking about trying a step up on the pilots.

Yes, the ends of old stock head pipes are the "trick" for the MACs. Add a pipe ring to fill the rest of that step in the head and you're all set. As you can see, the sealing flange on the Mac pipe is virtually nonexistent. I don't know how they expected that to seal up .....
