Hey folks:
I just recently joined and just recently became an XS650 owner. I live in the beautiful mountains of Southeast Kentucky (Harlan County). I am 44 years old and have been riding over 30 years. I have owned some two dozen bikes of assorted manufacturers.
Right now I have an 80' Suzuki GS750L, an 81' GS750L, an 80' GS1100E, a 74' Suzuki GT550 (triple), a 70 Yamaha R5 and my newly purchased 79' Yamaha XS650.
I have always done all my own work and enjoy it (except mounting tires, which I dispise). I bought my 79' XS650 for $100.00. It looks great but the dude told me that it would not charge. I surely will be posting questions on your site to help me bring this exceptional machine back to life. I have already rebuilt the carbs and purchased new cables and a top-end chrome connector kit.
Either I had to many beers last night or this bike (79') does not have points. I didn't know that any machines went electronic until 1980. I love finding that my knowledge is severely limited.
I post quite a bit on the GSResouces Site and hope to enjoy this site just as much.
I'll be in touch on a regular basis and look forward to and truly appreciate all the knowledge of experienced riders/mechanics.
Thanks: David (dtkid)

Hey David, welcome aboard. I was just up in Colleton Ky. about a month ago picking up a 78 650 for my fiance that I won off of ebay. Man that is beautiful country up there, and everyone I met was really friendly. I was impressed. So much for the "southern hospitality" here in Ga. Hey, I'll give ya 150.00 for the bike. Just kidding. It's possible that someone may have converted the bike to electronic ignition. Get a manual for the bike and start checkin' it out. Give me a shout.
Wulf
