i also have stock 79 mags but i would like to run a 500-16 on spoked rims... so i wonder if i can have an xs hub laced to another type rim? if so... what kind of rim? or can i just run an HD rear wheel on my hard tail?

if you run a harley wheel you will have to get a special built sprocket. the 650 sprocket has 34 teeth and bolts on with six bolts. the harley sprocket bolts on with 5 bolts and is about 50 teeth. you can run a 5.00 on the wheels you have now, the 130mm tire is 5.00 wide. if you get a spoke 650 wheel you just have to run a drum brake. they used a 16 inch spoke wheel with a drum brake on the standard models from about 80 on up. if you want a spoke wheel with a disc brake yamaha didn't make one. kawasaki used one from about 78 or 79 up to the mid 80's. i'm not sure of the sprocket bolt pattern or the disc size, another thing is the axle diameter, the 650 uses a 20 mm. i think harleys used a 3/4 or 1 inch axle.
