I mounted a Mikes XS fusebox (part #10-2006) on my SJ last year to replace the original on which the clips were breaking one by one. After putting a couple of individual fuse holders from Radio Shack on I thought I'd better just buy the repro box that Mike sells for $22.
Installation is fairly simple, just cut off the harness as close to the old fusebox as possible. Strip about 3/8" of insulation off the ends of the wires and slip them through the supplied plug. Crimp the metal tubes onto the wires and pull them back into the plastic plug housing and plug the new fusebox into the harness.
While not exactly identical to the stock box it is a very close match and includes the battery cover as well. Without an original to compare to most people wouldn't know the difference. It works just fine. While many would rather replace the original box with a blade fuse type, for those who want to keep their bikes as stock as possible or are doing a restoration Mike's box fills the bill.

I replaced the clips themselves since mine were snapping off right & left. Yamaha sells replacement clips. It was a bit of a chore to do - took about an hour all of them, but it retained the original fuse block.
A buddy of mine that runs a parts & service shop (Crolli's in Erie, PA) recommended doing this as he said he had seen several XS650's that fried the wiring harness when their fuse box shorted - yikes!

How much are the clips? I've got another couple of bikes to do.

I don't exactly remember, but I think it was about $10 or $15 to do all the clips in the fuse panel. Not a great bargain.
Sorry I can't remember more about the cost - senior moment...

Well it's less than the Mikes XS replacement fusebox.
