Please - I need a new Center stand for my 81 - the "dog leg" that goes off to the side (the part you step on to push it up on the center stand) keeps breaking off on mine - It's been welded once - but I am running out of spots to weld it.
Anyone Else have this problem?
Please contact me if you have an extra one.
Thanks Jim

I just began stripping a 1984 xs650 and wont be needing the center stand if you pay the shipping and it will work on your bike its yours. Email me at Dirttracker46 @ comcast.net if interested.

Thanks - I just spend $30 to have mine welded back together for the 2nd time - but I would be interested in yours as a back up- because I just don't have much faith in mine anymore.
I sent you an e-mail.

Jim......The plugs we have been discussing with my kit.......left is actually a half a tad cleaner that the right.......would make sense with the half a half a tad more fuel on the right to keep the right from getting hotter..........

Actually - yours are completely opposite (switch left and right for me) and slightly cleaner than mine.

Go for that '84 stand. In '82, Yamaha braced the stands to prevent this very problem. The stand on my '78 broke and I added the brace much like the factory did, when I repaired it. When you get your new stand, I can brace the old one if you like, just send me a P.M. Here's an '82 stand with the factory added brace between the tang and the left leg .....

5twins......didn't know there was a difference.....will keep my eye open for one of those 84's.....thought about shortening mine a tad bkut might as well shorten an 84 to avoid the breaking thing.......being so feeble with my back hassel it is hard to get it on the stand sometimes......think I lowered the back an inch with the different shocks too.....

I knew they started bracing them in the 80s, just wasn't sure exactly what year. Since Jim's '81 doesn't appear to have it, I guess '82-on stands were the braced ones. Here's my original '78 stand that I braced. I have a '77 one that I will be bracing as well .....

Yeh - I sent off an e-mail to order the 84 stand - I also just (by default) had the guy at the welding shop here in Bufalo - beef up my old stand a bit by welding in a brace!
Great mInds!
