I recently replaced the stock mufflers on my 1975 xs with stock nos ones as the original ones were beat up. The ends of the old ones were drilled with about 3/8" holes outside the baffles at 12:00, 3:00, 6:00 and 9:00. They sounded great ! I would like to livin up the sound on the new pipes an eliminate some of the restriction but don't want to ruin the look of the new pipes. Thinking about drilling a single hole in the inner end of the baffle that is about eight inches or so in from the end of the pipe. Anyone try this with any luck?
