Charged the battery this weekend on my 79 Special. The battery was still in the bike while charging. Went inside for a quick lunch & somehow the seat managed to come down on top the positive cable on the battery charger. Needless to say when I got back out there was some smoldering going on around the battery cable fuse box area. Got everything under control, and when I kicked key to on position everything appeared normal. Started bike up, but after shutting down no power to ignition. Traced problem to blown main fuse. Replaced fuse, re-started bike but fuse blew again after shutting off engine. Bike appeared to function just fine while engine was running. Headlights, taillights, speedo lights all working. I still have the original fuse box on the bike. I suspect I have some kind of a short since the main fuse keeps blowing (fuse box getting hot) Any suggestions on where to begin from any electrical gurus out there?

I would look closely at the wires that go to that fuse as it's possible a wire got damage and making the fuse blow.
