Hello Folks, I have a 1982 xs650 bobber. It has an aftermarket carb. Has a twisted shaft going into 1 carb out the side. I have having a hard time keeping it running. It leaks fuel out the gate of the carb. Anyone have one of these carbs or know why fuel would be leaking out. I thought maybe the floats (black plastic) were bad.

- could be float not set properly, sticking float needle valve...
- check your petcocks

I don't know a lot about the carb. That is probably my main probelm. I bought the bike with an after market (two into one) carb. It looks pretty neat. The only writing I see on the carb is Mikuni and Made in Japan. I took it apart and it looks pretty clean. There is only one screw that adjust on the carb.
the petcock is just an on/off switch. Gas either flows or it doesn't. I would assume the float would prevent from over flow.

sounds like a float not adjusted correctly or a sunk float
take the float out and make sure it floats in a small container of fuel.
here is a quick how to on float adjustment

ikuni Float Adjustment
by Jim Schneider
If you have a lot of fuel exiting the Mikuni overflow you may have to adjust the float valve clearance. Remove the carb and the 4 screws on the bottom to remove the bowl cover and expose the float. With the carb sitting level measure the float height and compare to the Mikuni tuning manual for the float settings for your carb model. Adjusting is simply bending the tab that the float valve hangs on until the float is at the correct height. This is a minor adjustment.
