anyone know where i can get a set? my 78 xs 650 the brushes are worn out . have torn apart several starters and alternators trying to find something close i need some asap its my primary mode of transportation...

Sears Hardware sells brushes, Take one old one, match up as close as you can. About $5 a piece.
If they are a bit to large to slide into the holder, sand them down a bit till they fit.
Unsolder the old ones from the metal mounting strip, solder the new ones to the metal strip. install, be happy.
